The Day

The Sessions

Renowned industry experts and practitioners  will present on a range of keynote sessions exploring the current challenges faced by the industry. Our Policy panel session will be discussing the two key pieces of legislation impacting the sector with a focus on examining the proposals, their parliamentary progress and their impact.

We will be looking at how viable AI technology is at delivering business value across the sector and what future innovations could transform property management.

TPI’s Wellbeing Working Group will be discussing the results of this year’s wellbeing survey and its implications for the Industry.

Adam’s journey reflects a deep commitment to fostering positive mental health and self-awareness, both on a personal level and within the workplace. Today, Adam is known for facilitating immersive retreats around the world, helping people reconnect with themselves, alongside his work with businesses to create the conditions for positive cultures and pragmatic approaches to mental health. His approach to self-improvement is infused with humour, reflecting his belief that not taking oneself too seriously is key to personal growth. With a light-hearted approach to life's challenges, he encourages everyone to embrace self-improvement and mental health with an open mind.

A Fellow of both the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and The Property Institute, Andrew started his residential PRS and leasehold management practice in 1995-2016, taking on the role of UK Residential Director at RICS 2013-2016, then his CEO role at IRPM. He oversaw IRPM's 2022 merger with ARMA, becoming CEO of The Property Institute, the new professional body formed from the merger. The Property Institute is the UK’s leading professional body for residential leasehold and multi-family property management, representing both individual professionals and businesses alike. Andrew is passionate about raising standards across the property management sectors and encouraging property professionals to be a progressive and ethical force for good.

Anna is an associate tutor and property professional. Amongst her industry-related qualifications, she is an Individual Member of The Property Institute and an associate of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors. Anna focuses her expertise on offering training and support to the block sector through industry-specific training and mentoring. With a background as a qualified teacher, she delivers the Introduction to Residential Property Management course and contributes to the creation of the Wellbeing Standard within TPI. Anna is also associated with Warwick Estates, where she supports the team with her property management experience. Beyond her professional goals, Anna is a passionate animal rescuer and supports her local community affected by the cost of living crisis through her charitable work.

Emily has over 17 years’ experience in Residential Property Management. Emily is passionate about delivering excellent service to customers alongside supporting, training and mentoring her team. Emily is on the Board of Directors for The Property Institute and is an active member of the Wellbeing working group. In addition, she is a Doyenne Ambassador and an Honorary Consultant for the Federation of Private Residents Associations. Away from property Emily enjoys time with her family and playing a variety of musical instruments.

Emma is a Partner in the Property Litigation Department, specialising in contentious residential leasehold matters. Her practice includes: contested right to manage claims, property disrepair and dilapidation cases, service charge disputes and claims arising from the Building Safety Act 2022 with cases in County Court, First-tier Tribunal (Property Chamber), Upper Tribunal, Court of Appeal and Supreme Court. Emma offers a proactive approach, utilising alternative dispute resolution and pre-emptive pre-action steps to minimise litigation costs.

Felix has enjoyed a career working within various roles across the wider property sector, spanning over 30 years – currently working as Director of Asset Management at Innovus. Working in senior roles in Human Resources, Property Management, Property Systems and Asset Management has given him a great perspective on service delivery in the leasehold sector. Felix is passionate about improving standards and customer perception of our sector, which have been his key drivers for his involvement with The Property Institute. Outside of work, Felix’s main passion in life though is to make full use of his holiday entitlement and travel.

Jaclyn Thorburn

Head of Public Affairs & Relations - The Property Institute
Jaclyn has worked in the residential property sector for almost 20 years in a number of senior and director-level marketing, communications and PR roles, working with developers, property management and financial services firms, housing associations, and industry bodies, across the private and social sector and across all tenures, including leasehold, shared ownership, and build-to-rent. Jaclyn is the strategic lead of TPI’s PR and communications activities, responsible for the influence of relevant industry policy, building and maintaining strong relationships with legislators, and engaging with stakeholders across the industry to represent and maintain the highest possible reputation for TPI and the property management profession, as well as keeping TPI members briefed and informed on how policy direction and development will affect their businesses and work.

Lee Rowley was appointed Parliamentary Under Secretary of State in the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities on 7 September 2022. He was previously Parliamentary Under Secretary of State in the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy and Government Whip, Lord Commissioner of HM Treasury between 17 September 2021 and 6 July 2022. He was elected the Conservative MP for North East Derbyshire on 8 June 2017.

Mark is a Partner at Brethertons working closely with clients and stakeholders alike to completely understand and support them in achieving their strategic goals. With many years’ experience in property related fields Mark began his working life in estate agency in 1991 before moving into lettings. In 2005 Mark joined Brethertons, rising to Partner level in 2016. He focused on the leasehold sector, connecting clients with much needed legal support. Mark spent five years working for a national managing agent gaining essential experience on the front line before returning to his role at Brethertons in 2023. Mark is considered to be an all round property professional.

Martin was appointed Chair of government funded Leasehold Advisory Service in November 2023. Secretary of State Micheal Gove has tasked Martin with radically transforming the organisation in its support of leaseholders with the remit to "robustly" engage with the government on improving legislation. Martin continues in his role of chair of the campaigning charity the Leasehold Knowledge Partnership.

Nick Whitten

Head of EMEA and UK Residential & Living Research - JLL
Nick’s experience spans advisory for both public and private sector clients on residential development and investment opportunities. He acts as a JLL spokesperson for a wide range of housing market-related issues and is regularly cited in national and international media. He is also a regular speaker at property industry conferences. Nick is also chair of the JLL Global Living Research Hub which is exploring how housing and demographic trends are changing real estate across the world. Nick currently manages the day-to-day operations of the JLL Residential and Living Research team which covers the residential, student accommodation and later living sectors across EMEA and in the UK.

Paul is a qualified policy manager, with 30 years’ knowledge and experience of regulatory policy projects gained from working in several different central Government Departments and statutory regulators, as well as a professional standards body. Immediately prior to joining the Property Institute in August 2023, Paul spent nearly five years as Head of Policy at the Sports Grounds Safety Authority, the UK Government’s advisor on safety at sports grounds, with specific responsibilities for overseeing the SGSA’s annual licensing system for professional football grounds in England and Wales and introducing standing in seated areas at Premier League and Championship grounds.

With over 26 years’ experience in the property industry, Paul has provided clients with a range of services through consultancy, valuation, market analysis and supporting investment analysis for residential property transactions. He is currently Head of Residential Strategic Advisory for JLL in the UK having previously been JLL’s Head of Build to Rent, Australia and New Zealand between 2020 and 2022. Paul’s experience includes working with institutional investors, large scale publicly listed property companies, government organisations, developers and private companies on a wide range of residential investments including PRS assets, ground rents, equity release products and BTR.

Philip joined HSE as a Factory Inspector and has experience of regulating a broad range of industries. Philip has held senior operational and policy roles in HSE, including Head of HSE's Operational Strategy Division, Chief Inspector of Construction and Director of Regulation. Philip has experience of working elsewhere in Government including the Department of Environment, Transport & Regions and Department for Work and Pensions. In May 2023 he was asked to take on the role the Director of Building Safety for the Building Safety Regulator within HSE on a temporary basis with the appointment made permanent in November 2023.

Shelley Jacobs has spent most of her career in the block management industry. She is the Operations Director of managing agent Michael Laurie Magar Ltd. Shelley is also a Business Psychologist and a Cognitive Behavioural Coach. She delivers TPI’s Resilience, Leadership and Time Management training courses and regularly presents talks, webinars and writes articles on different aspects of Mental Health, Leadership and Wellbeing. Shelley sits on the TPI Wellbeing Working group and is an advocate for supporting wellbeing and mental health awareness at work.

Sue Petri

Director - Rendall and Rittner
Sue joined the Board of Rendall and Rittner in August 2019. Having worked in the industry for over 25 years, Sue has served at Board level with three of the leading property management companies, as well having been a member of Council for ARMA; chairing ARMA’s Technical and Conference Committees. Sue is a Fellow of the Institute of Residential Property Management and continues to play an active role within the industry. She is currently focusing on engaging with Government and other key stakeholders to address current challenges in fire safety and remediation, working closely with the TPI, together with a small number of leading managing agents.

Tom is an entrepreneur focused on solving problems that sit at the intersection of Artificial Intelligence and Real Estate. In 2023, Tom sold his Google-backed AI real estate company, askporter, to Germany's largest facilities operator and now serves as Chairman of the RED Foundation AI Board and Chief Product and AI Officer at Adiuvo, a property and technology services company serving over 1 million properties worldwide.
